You can run the webserver in debug mode as per wiki instructions - it might shed a light as to where it fails in the communication with the mail server.

Port 25 allow smtp rule was for our hosted email server-it didn't work either; I also have port 587 allow smtp for gmail rule.

The error message comes from WMI and is generated by Microsoft - the software displays it - the software has nowhere in the code such messages programmed.

After going over more information with my boss we found that the issue was related to bad arp cache. Clearing the cache allowed the device to communicate properly.
